In addition to building new sites, fielding support requests, and keeping Drupal modules up-to-date, the web team works to improve Department Web Framework sites throughout the year. Changes and new features since fall 2015 include:
- Added "Cancel" button on editing forms. Previously editors had to navigate away from the page without saving. Now there is an unambiguous cancel action.
- Upgraded Google Analytics module to support universal analytics and advanced demographic data.
- Optimized theme code (SVG logos, social media icon sprites, color standardization).
- Added in-site Style Guides to help with previewing typography and visual design.
- Changed form CAPTCHAs to use Google's Recaptcha (more accessible and user-friendly).
- Alphabetized radio and checkbox columns down instead of across.
- Limited options shown in exposed filters for "Related Fields" to items with associated content (affects people directory and research pages).
- Increased font size on six sites with older, smaller font sizes.
- Standardized image field widgets and crop settings.
- Added "Add to MyPlan" button on course detail pages.
- Added section letter to course detail page titles.
- Moved catalog descriptions under custom descriptions (when available) on course detail pages.
- Upgraded all sites to add files as links using file browser instead of insert button on files tab. Makes it possible to replace files with newer versions (using the same name), link to the same file from multiple places, and delete old files no longer needed on the server.
We don't always announce these changes to our users, but hope you'll notice them as you use the sites and go about your work. If you have feedback or ideas for an improvement, write to us at asweb@uw.edu.
