Scandinavian Studies visual redesign
The Department of Scandinavian Studies is the third department to undergo a comprehensive visual design refresh. See their new look at http://scandinavian.washington.edu
The Department Web Framework is a free service provided by the UW College of Arts & Sciences Marketing & Communications team. We design, build, and host websites for the College's departments, so they can focus on their content and communication strategies.
There are currently 33 departments using the framework service. It is available to academic departments in all four divisions: Arts, Humanities, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences. If your department is interested in joining, contact Shane Fricks. What if I'm not eligible?
We've got lots of tutorials and background information in our documentation and help section.
For notices of system downtime, upgrades, new features, and workshops, join the asweb-users mailing list.
Not all units are eligible for the framework. Learn more about Arts & Sciences web services at the College's Marketing site.

Back in March 2012, the Department of French & Italian Studies graciously served as the pilot for a new service to design and support websites out of the dean's office and the marketing communications team. That service evolved into the Department Web Framework. Five years later, we've revisited the site and given them a complete visual redesign. Check it out at https://frenchitalian.washington.edu
Our next Department Web Framework users meeting will be Tuesday, November 7, 2017, from 1:00-2:00pm in CMU 202 (Simpson Center seminar room). The topic will be calendars and events – what web calendar systems are available? what kind of events belong on your department calendar? how can you share events with other departments? how can you manage event registration? what approaches have worked or not worked for you and your department?
Our team is excited to announce two enhancements for department sites:
The Department of History is the 30th department to join the Department Web Framework. View their new site at https://history.washington.edu
The Department of Applied Mathematics is the second unit from the Division of Natural Sciences to join the Department Web Framework. Visit their new site at https://amath.washington.edu
The Department of Germanics was one of the first units to join the Department Web Framework in 2012. This spring, our design team worked with the department to reassess their objectives for the website and engage in a complete visual refresh. Some content has been reorganized, but most of the information architecture and editing functionality remains the same. It now has a clean, modern design with better usability and responsiveness. We will be offering other units the opportunity for a visual redesign in the 2017-2018 academic year.
Our next Department Web Framework users group will be Tuesday, April 18, from 1:00-2:00pm in CMU 202 (Simpson Center conference room).
The topic will be web analytics. We’ll give you a tour of the Google Analytics interface, talk about how you can use this information to improve your sites, and share some insights gleaned from looking at the data from all departments in the framework. Bring a laptop and you can follow along and explore your own unit’s reports.
We are pleased to announce that the Department of Mathematics is the first unit from the Natural Sciences Division to join the Department Web Framework. Visit their new site at https://math.washington.edu
The Department of Near Eastern Languages & Civilization (NELC) has a new website at nelc.washington.edu. This site debuts a brand new theme custom designed for Arts & Sciences units.
